Pediatric Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are necessary for a tooth with a cavity. This is because when the cavity is removed, a hole is left in the teeth. A crown coves this up and protects your tooth! Children get cavities more often than their adult counterparts. Because of this, they require dental crowns as well. At Kidz Connextion Dental & Braces, we provide pediatric dental crowns for our patients. To learn more, contact any of our three offices in Phoenix, AZ.

A baby tooth with decay can be saved with a dental crown. In some cases, removing the tooth is a better option. This isn’t always viable, as certain adult teeth aren’t ready to erupt. Hence, the use of dental crowns. Our dentists recommend that children receive tooth-colored crowns for the front teeth. The molars are better off with the silver stainless option.

The entire process is very easy and straightforward. We first apply anesthesia to the decayed tooth. We remove and clean it to get rid of any of the decay. From here, the crown is measured and placed on the tooth.

Your child should continue to care for this tooth like they would any others. They must avoid eating any sticky or hard foods for a few days after. These can move or displace the crown. A child then needs to be brought back in for the crown’s replacement. Make sure to keep an eye on the crown and flag any sides of infection.

Teeth Sensitivity After Filling

Getting a cavity removed is a scary event for a small child. Many experience uncomfortable and sensitive teeth afterward. This is because a filling is needed to replace the cavity. Here at Kidz Connextion Dental & Braces, we offer safe and comfortable pediatric dental services. There’s no need for apprehension before a cavity removal. Our qualified team will walk you through the post-filling care for sensitive teeth. Learn more by contacting our offices in Phoenix, AZ.

The more relaxed the child is, the easier the filling process. Explain the process to them in a non-threatening way. Limit how much your child eats and drinks up to six hours before the cavity extraction. This keeps any interference with the anesthesia to a minimum.

There are a few types of anesthesia available for the procedure. The most common types are local anesthesia and topical. Very anxious or nervous children can undergo general anesthesia. It’s important that you ask the right questions before everything begins. Ask about any pretreatment assessments. You should also verify the certification of the individual applying the anesthesia. This guarantees that your child is safe throughout the ordeal.

The entire procedure takes about an hour. Now comes the important post-care instructions. These help with the discomfort caused by the filling. It’s normal for pain and swelling to occur. Monitor how long the sensitivity lasts. If it remains after two days, contact your Phoenix, AZ, dentist right away. This could indicate an allergic reaction to the anesthesia or a bite adjustment.

Here are a few more tips for sensitivity after a filling:

-monitor your child’s diet and give them only soft foods

-don’t give them any sippy cups or straws while healing

-a cold compress can be applied for 15 minutes in the specific area

-prevent engagement in heavy activity after

-follow instructions for any pain medication
